CIVIS Course

October & November 2024

  • I completed the CIVIS course “Basis and Methods of Localisation”, where I learned about video game translation, market trends, and localisation tools. The course was a mix of one month online followed by a week in Madrid at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM).

  • During the online part, I worked with localisation software and explored different translation techniques used in the gaming industry. I also learned about cultural adaptation and how localisation goes beyond just translating words.

  • The in-person week in Madrid was an amazing experience. I collaborated with students from different countries, worked on real-world localisation projects, and attended workshops led by industry professionals. Being in an international setting helped me develop stronger intercultural communication skills, and I gained a much deeper understanding of how localisation works in practice.

  • This course gave me hands-on experience with the tools and skills needed in video game localisation, and it was a great opportunity to network and learn from experts in the field.

Adam Smith Skills Award

2024

  • The Adam Smith Skills Award gave me the opportunity to develop a wide range of transferable skills that are essential for both personal and professional growth. The programme focused on building skills in areas such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem-solving. Through a series of workshops, practical exercises, and projects, I was able to apply these skills in real-world contexts, enhancing my ability to work effectively in various environments.

  • Completing the award provided me with a valuable credential, demonstrating my commitment to continuous learning and my ability to work collaboratively with others. It was a great way to develop both my professional skills and my confidence in applying them.

Hackathon

2024

  • I participated in a 24-hour Hackathon in Amsterdam with AS Watson, where I worked on developing an innovative app proposal. The experience was both intense and rewarding, as I collaborated with a diverse team to create a solution that combined Gamification, AI, and Digital Loyalty.
  • Our idea focused on enhancing O+O (Online + Offline) integration, making the shopping experience more seamless while also promoting sustainability. We designed personalised customer challenges that encouraged eco-friendly behaviours and rewarded users through a digital loyalty system.
  • Being in Amsterdam for the Hackathon was an incredible opportunity to network with industry professionals, exchange ideas with like-minded innovators, and experience the fast-paced environment of tech problem-solving. I gained valuable insights into user engagement strategies, the latest AI-driven personalisation techniques, and how to create digital solutions that align with business goals and customer needs.
  • This experience strengthened my problem-solving skills, teamwork, and ability to think creatively under pressure, all while immersing myself in an international tech-driven environment.
Accelerate Entrepreneurship Education in Europe, Amsterdam & Glagsow

  • I attended the Advanced Ecosystem Workshop in Data-Driven Entrepreneurship in Amsterdam and Glasgow, where I gained valuable insights into how data can be leveraged to enhance entrepreneurial ventures. This experience deepened my understanding of data-driven decision-making, business innovation, and startup growth strategies.
  • As part of the programme, I also visited Filament STAC – Smart Things Accelerator Centre, where I had the opportunity to learn from diverse entrepreneurs, industry experts, and startup founders. Hearing about their journeys and challenges provided me with a broader perspective on business development, innovation, and scaling startups in different industries.
  • This experience strengthened my knowledge of entrepreneurial ecosystems and gave me practical strategies for integrating data-driven insights into business ventures. It was an inspiring opportunity to network, collaborate, and explore the future of entrepreneurship in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Datathon - upReach Tech 500 & PwC & Alteryx, Manchester

  • I worked as part of a team-based problem-solving challenge, where we tackled real-world data issues and presented our solutions to the PwC team. This experience helped me develop my analytical thinking, teamwork, and presentation skills in a professional setting.
  • As part of the project, I learned the basics of Alteryx, a leading data analytics and automation platform. Through hands-on practice, I gained experience in data preparation, transformation, and workflow automation, applying these skills to analyse and present data-driven insights.
  • This opportunity allowed me to enhance my problem-solving skills, work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, and gain exposure to industry practices in data analytics. Presenting our findings to PwC professionals also gave me valuable insights into how data is used in real-world business decision-making.

SQA Music for Sound and Games Course

  • I completed the SQA Music & Sound for Games Course with the Academy of Music and Sound, where I gained hands-on experience in audio design and implementation for video games. Throughout the course, I worked with FMOD and Unity, two industry-standard tools for interactive audio integration.

  • I learned how to create, edit, and implement dynamic sound effects and music that react to in-game events, enhancing player immersion. This involved layering audio, using real-time parameter controls, and applying adaptive music techniques to create more engaging and interactive experiences.

  • Additionally, I explored game audio workflows, mixing techniques, and spatial sound design, ensuring that audio elements complemented the visual and gameplay mechanics effectively.

  • This course helped me develop a strong foundation in sound implementation for games, equipping me with the skills to collaborate with game developers and integrate audio seamlessly into interactive environments.

Beyond Broadway Experience, Edinburgh

  • The Beyond Broadway Experience in Edinburgh allowed me to train intensively in singing and dancing over two weeks of rehearsals, leading up to a live performance. Working with professional choreographers and musical directors, I learned choreography and vocal arrangements for a large-scale musical theatre production. The experience gave me valuable insight into the preparation and teamwork required to bring a show to life in a professional setting.

BFI Film Academy: Network Programme, Glagsow

2016-2017

  • Over the course of 40 hours, I engaged in intensive, hands-on training that blended both theoretical knowledge and practical filmmaking experience. Each course was crafted to immerse participants in the filmmaking process, ensuring that we gained a comprehensive skill set. The training included workshops that focused on various aspects of filmmaking, from pre-production to post-production, with an emphasis on practical application.
  • As part of the training, I also took on the role of an editor, allowing me to deepen my understanding of the post-production phase. I was responsible for editing raw footage, assembling scenes, and applying effects to create a cohesive final product. This experience not only enhanced my editing skills but also gave me valuable insight into how editing shapes the overall storytelling and visual style of a project.
  • Through this hands-on approach, I developed a well-rounded set of filmmaking skills, both on-set and in the editing suite, which equipped me with the tools and confidence to handle a variety of filmmaking tasks.
BFI Film Academy: Animation Camp, Bristol

2017

  • During my time at the Stop Motion Animation course, I had the opportunity to work closely with industry professionals from Aardman and the University of the West of England. I gained hands-on experience in animation techniques, from concept development to final production. It was an incredible chance to learn from BAFTA winners and Emmy nominees, who shared invaluable insights into the animation industry. I was also able to explore different career paths through visits to working sets, film studios, and university courses, which opened my eyes to the many possibilities within the film industry.

  • Living in Bristol for the week was a highlight, as I got to meet like-minded peers and make connections that continue to be valuable today. The residential aspect of the course allowed me to immerse myself fully in the experience, and I made lasting friendships with fellow participants. It was a week filled with inspiration, creativity, and a shared passion for film that has continued to motivate me as I pursue a career in the industry.

Advanced Acting Performance Programme, UK Theatre School

2014-2017

  • The Advanced Acting Performance Programme at UK Theatre School allowed me to focus on developing my acting skills while also incorporating dance and singing into my training. Alongside the acting work, I had weekly classes in both dance and singing, each lasting an hour. These sessions helped me improve my physicality and vocal skills, complementing my acting and enhancing my overall performance abilities.
  • The programme provided numerous opportunities to perform in front of an audience and receive feedback from experienced professionals. This experience gave me a clearer understanding of what it takes to pursue a career in theatre. It was a well-rounded training that pushed me to grow as a performer in multiple areas.

  • Over the course of five years at drama school, I received in-depth training in acting, focusing on developing my technical skills and understanding of performance.   • During my time at drama school, I worked on a variety of productions, which allowed me to apply what I was learning in a practical context.   • I spent seven years actively participating in Girlguiding, where I gained valuable leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
