Dissertation Project - Consultant | Alexander Sloan

  • I conducted a comprehensive market analysis of Scotland’s FinTech sector, examining key trends, market segmentation, and areas of opportunity. This involved assessing the competitive landscape, emerging technologies, and regulatory developments to identify potential growth areas for Alexander Sloan. My analysis provided valuable insights to support strategic decision-making and business development.
  • To gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by FinTech start-ups, I worked closely with founders and industry stakeholders, conducting interviews to explore their pain points and areas for improvement. Through these discussions, I identified key challenges such as regulatory complexities, funding difficulties, and operational inefficiencies. I collaborated with them to explore potential solutions and aligned these insights with Alexander Sloan’s value proposition, identifying ways the firm could tailor its services to better support FinTech businesses.
  • Based on my findings, I developed a go-to-market strategy that aligned with Alexander Sloan’s long-term vision. This included evaluating different market entry approaches, such as direct engagement and strategic partnerships, while also assessing potential risks and feasibility. I presented my recommendations to senior leadership, providing a clear and actionable plan for market entry and expansion, ensuring alignment with both industry needs and the firm’s strategic objectives.
Hacking for the Ministry of Defence Course

  • I conducted weekly stakeholder interviews, targeting 10 per week, to gather insights and improve air delivery capabilities across land, sea, and air domains. Using a snowball sampling method, I expanded the reach of interviewees by leveraging recommendations from initial contacts, ensuring a diverse and comprehensive range of industry perspectives.
  • In addition to conducting interviews, I managed all stakeholder communications, including initial outreach, scheduling, and follow-ups, ensuring smooth coordination and professional engagement. I also organised interview timings within the team, balancing availability constraints while covering all key focus areas.
  • I contributed to the final report, detailing the methodology, evaluation of key challenges, and development of mission model canvases to analyse potential solutions and strategic approaches. Furthermore, I participated in weekly client calls, presenting key findings, summarising stakeholder insights, and refining recommendations based on client feedback to align with strategic objectives.

  •  I collaborated closely with the Editorial Operations Team within the Commodity Insights Division, working together to streamline processes and enhance data-driven decision-making.

  • I conceptualised and implemented creative ideas for the website, developing innovative concepts that enhanced the user experience and aligned with the client’s objectives. I consistently thought outside the box to create engaging and visually appealing designs that met both functional and aesthetic requirements.
  • I created visual elements, such as graphics and layouts, ensuring that all designs were in line with the client’s branding guidelines. By paying close attention to the client’s vision and brand identity, I was able to produce cohesive and effective visual content that reinforced the brand’s image.
  • I collaborated closely with the team and worked directly with the director to build the website using WordPress. Through effective teamwork, we ensured that all aspects of the site were built to specification, including functionality, design, and performance. My hands-on experience with WordPress allowed me to contribute to both the front-end and back-end development processes.
  •  I demonstrated the website’s features and management tools to clients, ensuring they understood how to navigate and update the site.

  • I supervised young campers aged 9-10 years old, fostering an environment where they could develop confidence, independence, and valuable life skills. Through structured activities and personalised guidance, I helped children gain a sense of achievement, while promoting teamwork and social interaction.
  • I assisted both staff and children with any technical issues that arose during camp activities. Whether it was troubleshooting equipment or providing support with camp technology, I ensured that everything ran smoothly, allowing for an enjoyable and uninterrupted experience for all.
  • I ensured that all technical camp equipment and facilities met safety regulations and were properly maintained throughout the camp. By conducting regular checks and addressing any concerns promptly, I ensured that all equipment was safe to use, contributing to a secure environment for both staff and campers.
  • I actively monitored the emotional well-being of all children, remaining vigilant for signs of stress or discomfort. If I identified any signs of emotional distress, I offered immediate counselling services, providing a supportive and empathetic space for children to express their feelings. This was crucial in ensuring that campers felt safe, cared for, and supported during their time at camp.
